In Kitty & The Crescent Moon, playwright Douglas Killingtree frames the story of Kitty Genovese as a tragically interrupted fairytale, focusing on re-storying both Kitty and the supportive community of people in her life who were later so maligned by the press.

A dramaturgical study packet by Karlie Guilliot and the playwright is available for free to productions in educational settings.

Kitty & The Crescent Moon is the winner of the 2025 Joseph Gilg Playwriting Award and made the playwright a semi-finalist for the Yale MFA Playwriting program. Kitty received a staged reading at the University of Oregon in March, 2025. Stay tuned for news on an upcoming production!
